The Tari Universe aims to revolutionize cryptocurrency mining by making it accessible for everyone, especially newcomers to the crypto world. Unlike Bitcoin, which often requires specialized and expensive hardware for mining, the Tari token offers easy, at-home mining. It targets the next generation of crypto users.
Tari Universe: A New Era of Mining
On September 12, Tari Universe will launch its mining software and testnet, with the mainnet scheduled to go live later this year. This development excites the crypto community. In May, Tari announced that eligible community members could earn Tari tokens by completing online quests. These quests include activities like liking and retweeting on Twitter, joining the Tari Reddit community, and creating memes featuring Soon, Tari’s turtle mascot.
What is the Tari Token?
The Tari token functions similarly to Ethereum. It powers the entire Tari network and will be used to pay for transactions and applications within the ecosystem. Tari operates on its own blockchain, leveraging technology from Monero, a leading privacy coin. It uses a hybrid model that mines half of its blocks on Tari and the other half via merge mining on Monero.
Merge Mining: The Tari Advantage
Merge mining allows miners to mine two or more cryptocurrencies simultaneously, provided they share the same consensus protocol and hash function. This process enhances security and cost efficiency for smaller networks like Tari without requiring additional resources. Jain, a spokesperson for Tari, emphasizes that while Tari benefits from Monero’s security model through merge mining, it remains a separate project from Monero.
Accessible Mining for All
One of Tari’s key advantages is its accessibility. Unlike Bitcoin mining, which demands custom and expensive hardware, you can mine Tari using existing laptops or desktop computers. The Tari Universe software offers two modes for mining: ECO mode and Ludicrous Mode. ECO mode draws fewer resources, making it ideal for mining while using the computer. Ludicrous Mode consumes more resources and works best when the computer is idle, such as overnight.
Bringing in the Next Generation
Jain stresses the importance of engaging the next generation of crypto users rather than relying solely on established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. “What about Gen Alpha and Gen Z?” Jain asks. Making mining accessible and straightforward is crucial for the future of cryptocurrency. With Tari, crypto mining isn’t just for tech enthusiasts; anyone with a computer can participate, making it an inviting gateway for new users.
